The U.K. Green Investment Bank today said it’s funding the installation of a wood-fuelled power-generation system at a whisky distillery in Scotland.

The 4-megawatt biomass boiler, which is 50 percent more efficient than the distillery’s current oil-fired boilers, will help to lower energy costs and polluting emissions, the Edinburgh-based lender said today in an e-mailed statement.

The GIB is backing the project through a 5 million-pound ($8 million) commitment it made earlier this year to support energy-saving measures at Scottish distilleries.
